Stained Glass Lamps: 3D Construction

Teacher: Kristin Culotta | Date: Sat, 05.09 , 10am-5pm | Location: SE Division Studio
Tuition: $215 | Materials: $50

Students who have mastered the basics in Kristin's previous classes—perhaps creating a suncatcher, ornament, or completing her 4-day summer intensive—are ready to tackle their next challenge: crafting a functional, three-dimensional stained glass lamp. More info...

This full-day workshop invites intermediate students to apply their foundational skills while learning the specialized techniques required for three-dimensional glass construction. Under Kristin's guidance, students will create an elegant four-sided pendant lampshade, transforming flat glass into a functional work of art that brings warm, colored light into any space.

Students will build upon cutting, foiling, and soldering techniques learned in previous classes while mastering new skills specific to dimensional construction. The precision required for creating clean corners and seamless joints in 3D work represents a significant step up from flat panel projects. Everyone will complete a four-panel lampshade, working from a set of pattern options designed by Kristin. As any craftsperson knows, mastering the fundamentals through repetition is essential before moving on to creative variations. Think of it as learning to walk before attempting to dance.

Each completed lampshade will fit to the provided hanging pendant light fixtures, ensuring students leave with a fully functional piece ready to illuminate their homes. The transition from decorative suncatcher to practical lighting represents both a technical leap and a satisfying evolution in any glass artist's journey.

This workshop is designed for intermediate students who have completed a stained glass class within the past two years. Preferred prerequisites would be one of WildCraft’s 3-hour introductory workshops or 1-day intensives. Students should feel confident in their basic cutting, grinding, foiling, and soldering techniques, and be comfortable working with precision while following detailed step-by-step instructions.

This intermediate workshop requires previous experience working in stained glass. This workshop is open to anyone 18 years old & over who meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria for Studio Workshops.
