This centuries-old Japanese patterning technique utilizes a resist paste created from rice flour, elaborately hand-carved stencils and rich blue indigo dye. This two-day intensive led by MFA in Applied Craft graduate Tyler Peterson, guides students through the process of Katazome printing, including preparation of the resist paste, creation of personalized stencils, application of the paste onto cotton fabric, and natural indigo dying. Students will leave with large-scale, patterned/dyed yardage.
No previous experience necessary. This workshop is open to anyone 18 years old & over who meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria for Studio Workshops.
