Repeat patterns can be complex, winding florals with no clear beginning or end, or simple designs created from positive and negative shapes. This one-day workshop will introduce students to the process of designing a repeat pattern suited for textiles, carving and cutting a linoleum block, and printing on cotton and linen fabric. Weaver and textile designer, Jorie Garcia will guide students through multiple methods of creating repeat patterns, along with diverse tools to explore the subtle nuance of single-color block print for textiles. Alongside a cotton fabric sampler, recording multiple pattern experiments, students will complete a short production run of a finished design on linen fabric.
