This fast-paced, information-packed workshop will include an overview of clay’s inherent properties, such as water and air content, and how to work with the unique characteristics of the medium to create functional ceramic pieces. Students will gain experience in controlling the speed of the pottery wheel and manipulating clay with shaping and carving tools, while creating a unique collection of ceramic pieces. Instructors will give an overview of drying stages, shrinkage, and the glazing and firing processes. Students will get to choose from a selection of beautiful glaze finishes to complete their pieces.

Due to the time needed to dry greenware, Nola Clay studio staff will trim, glaze and fire the work. Students will be able to pick up finished work within three weeks. Materials fees cover the creation of up to 3 pieces, if additional pieces are made during the workshop, staff can assess an appropriate fee.
