In this seasonal workshop, students will learn Scandinavian flat-plane figure carving techniques as we work on our own dala-inspired horses. With roots in the 1700s, the famous wood carvers of the Swedish Dalarna region still hand-carve these pine figures today, and finish them with a traditional kurbits-style, hand-painted decoration. In this seasonal workshop, students will learn Scandinavian flat-plane figure carving techniques as we work on our own dala-inspired horses. Toward the end of the class, Rose will discuss a variety of decorating options, such as adding carved details or patterns with acrylic and natural milk-paint, for finishing the carved horses.
