Functional and beautiful—two hallmarks of European basketry tradition that shine in this contemporary leaf tray project. Drawing on techniques developed in rural workshops across England, France, and Scandinavia, you'll work with three sizes of basketry reed to create an elegant leaf-shaped tray that bridges the decorative and the practical.
Your finished piece works as a catchall for keys and small items, a striking serving tray for gatherings, or wall-hung sculptural decor. You'll master the figure-8 weaving pattern, learn to construct a sturdy frame, and add a stretcher bar for structure and hanging.
In just three hours, you'll leave with a finished tray and the skills to explore this ancient craft further.
No previous experience necessary. This workshop is open to anyone 18 years old & over who meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria for Studio Workshops.
