Inspired by Isamu Noguchi's iconic Akari series, in this one-day workshop you'll create a functional sculptural paper lamp that explores the relationship between light and three-dimensional form. More info...

Students will first explore form through sketching out their design, and then will transform reed and washi paper into a functional, sculptural lamp using a combination of structural assembly techniques. Each student will leave with a completed, one-of-a-kind paper table lamp ready to be featured in their home, plus the techniques and foundational knowledge to continue experimenting with sculptural paper lighting on their own.

No previous experience is necessary. This workshop is designed for beginners and experienced makers alike. All techniques will be demonstrated step-by-step, with plenty of opportunity to experiment and personalize the final design. The reed work involves some fine-motor work and working with your hands for an extended period of time, but the whole of the class can be done seated at a comfortable pace.

No previous experience necessary. This workshop is open to anyone 18 years old & over who meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria for Studio Workshops.
