Teacher: Inga Ilze Peterson | Date: Wed, 05.20 , 6-9pm | Location: SE Division Studio
Tuition: $125 | Materials: $25

Join paper artist Inga Ilze Peterson and learn to craft lifelike cherry blossom branches using premium German and Italian crepe papers, wire, and glue. More info...

These European papers, crafted specifically for floral work, allow for subtle color gradations and natural-looking curves that distinguish fine paper flowers from simple craft projects.

Students will learn fundamental techniques including proper cutting methods that preserve paper grain, shaping techniques that create natural petal curves, and precise gluing methods that ensure durability while maintaining delicate appearance.

The workshop covers creating cherry blossoms at various stages of bloom—from tight buds to fully opened blossoms with characteristic five petals and prominent stamens. Students will also craft leaves and learn assembly techniques using floral wire to create bendable armatures that support delicate paper elements while allowing natural positioning.

Understanding how real cherry branches grow and bend informs the placement of flowers, buds, and leaves for botanical accuracy. Students will complete a small cherry blossom branch ready for display, along with extra supplies and instructions for creating additional branches at home.

This workshop welcomes crafters of all experience levels, requiring only patience and attention to detail.
