Beginning with pre-cut pieces of leather, students will practice scoring and tooling techniques, before stamping, painting and antiquing their own handmade leather items. Ashley Doremire of Mix Tape PDX, will guide the class through assembling personalized accessories, such as wallets and keychains, using a leather punch to set rivets and a pricking iron, stitching groover and glover needles to sew saddle stitch.
Students will learn how to bevel, seal and finish these items, with special attention given to how to care for and maintain their quality as they are used in everyday life. Students will have the opportunity to craft and take home several small items in this class.
This workshop is open to beginners with no prior experience in leather work needed. Moderate hand strength is required in order to handle tools and use a mallet.
No previous experience necessary. This workshop is open to anyone 18 years old & over who meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria for Studio Workshops.
