Intro to Drypoint Etching

Teacher: Meg Hollinger | Date: Sun, 04.18 , 10am-4pm | Location: Pearl District Studio
Tuition: $170 | Materials: $30

This hands-on workshop, taught by printmaker Meg Hollinger, introduces one of the many techniques of printmaking: drypoint etching. More info...

Using plexiglass plates and non-toxic Akua inks, students create intaglio prints by etching (scratching with a needle tool) into a plexiglass plate that can be printed multiple times. Each print pulls fresh ink, so no two prints from the same plate are identical, creating a monoprint.

The drypoint technique itself is as approachable as drawing, making this a welcoming entry point into printmaking for students with no prior experience. Students are welcome to bring a 6x8 image to work from, or draw directly from imagination. Each student leaves with one printmaking plate and at least three prints, along with a working understanding of the drypoint etching process from plate to press.
