Interested in traditional ways to upcycle textiles? Have a few worn-out bed sheets hanging around your linen closet? More info...

Join textile artist, Elspeth Vance and learn how a few old sheets, a sharp pair of scissors, and a little handiwork can translate into a beautiful braided rug. This simple technique is different from other methods of rag rug making, with no sewing needed! Traditional wool rag rugs were made by braiding long strips of fabric and sewing those braids together. After much use, these rugs tended to split at their weakest point: the sewn seams. Using the method Elspeth is teaching, this rag rug will never come undone and can be washed and dried with the rest of your laundry! This traditional craft is a great way to upcycle well loved textiles from your collection, giveaway pile or the thrift store to create something beautiful and lasting for your home.

Clean, used bed sheets will be provided. Students are also welcome to bring any 100% cotton bed sheets they would like to work with.
