Join us at charming Luscher Farm to preserve the ephemeral beauty of summer blooms through botanical printing! More info...

In this 3-hour workshop students will be guided by textile artist and educator, Hannah Watson through two botanical printing techniques. With an emphasis on intentional pattern design strategies, Hannah will demonstrate both bundle dyeing and plant hammer printing – a process known in Japan as Hapa Zome, meaning “leaf dye.”

Students will explore color with fresh seasonal plants and flowers such as coreopsis, marigold, eucalyptus, goldenrod, cosmos, dyer’s chamomile and Queen Anne’s lace. Hannah will discuss how to mordant fabrics so that botanical prints retain their detail and color. Students will arrange, hammer and experiment with these playful techniques to create three unique tea towels and take home the vibrancy of summer for many seasons to come!
