Mycology Teacher Training
WildCraft is pleased to partner with folk mycologist Rachel Zoller, of Yellow Elanor fame, for a 3-month mycology apprenticeship and teacher training.
We are accepting 2 students into this program (free of charge) with the goal of supporting their development from ‘mushroom enthusiasts’ to professional foraging teachers, ready to lead as members of the WildCraft 2020 teaching staff. Apprentices will join Rachel on all mushroom forages she leads for WildCraft Studio School in Fall 2019, supporting her classes and learning her methods for introducing the complex study of mycology to groups of beginning foragers. Apprentices will learn to support groups in safely identifying and harvesting a range of edible mushrooms. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, WildCraft will offer teaching contracts for 2020-2022.
Ideal candidates possess the following skills and interests:
- Serious and previously demonstrated interest in mycology
- Experience working outdoors: hiking, camping, guiding
- Commitment to sharing knowledge professionally with adult groups
- Ability to plan 6-8 months in advance, committing to teaching 4-6 classes per season
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Confidence in leadership
- Preference given to folks living in the Columbia River Gorge
- Must own a reliable vehicle and willingness to drive to foraging locations
