Craft is only one piece of the puzzle in the time-honored trade of sign painting, so hold your paint brushes! More info...

Artist and commercial sign-painter, Kirsten Bauer, takes us back to the drawing board in this design-focused session.

In a jam-packed 6 hr workshop, Kirsten will demonstrate the process of “layout” - or how to create a well designed sign for yourself or a client. The workshop will introduce the rules of layout as taught in a traditional sign shop context, which include formal aspects such as size and spacing, legibility, proportions, focal points, movement, placement and negative space. Kirsten will discuss types of alphabets, lettering effects, color, context, and incorporation of visual imagery and graphics.

Open to beginners. This workshop will be focused on process, so students will not end the day with anything "finished" but will instead leave with several hand-drawn sketches and a wealth of new knowledge!

This class is an excellent follow-up to Kristin's 4-week Sign Painting workshop!
