Join us for a 1-day exploration of an early American craft, Punch Needle Rug Hooking, also referred to as "Punch Needle." More info...

The American origins of this textile art can be traced back to the late 1800's, evolving from early methods of rug making. In this workshop, Kate Heywood will guide students through the design and construction of a small tufted composition, providing instruction in preparing a frame, using the punch needle tool, trimming and cleaning, and finishing the edges. While learning the fundamentals of the Punch Needle technique, students will experiment with textures and imagery, bringing a contemporary perspective to this early American textile art. Punch Needle tufting can be used to create rugs, wallhangings, pillows and other 3D forms.

Students will leave class with a 12”x12” frame, punch needle, and the foundational skills needed to keep tufting!
