Less messy than charcoal, more polished than pencil – working with pen offers the advantages of portability and accessibility – and the more often you draw, the better! More info...

In pen, flat fields of tone, smudging and blending aren’t possible - the mark is always evident, and must be embraced. Led by artist & educator Isaac Weiss, this course will introduce students to a variety of strategies for working with pen on paper.

Through a series of exercises students will learn how to work with various mark making techniques to achieve a wide range of values and textures. The class will place an emphasis on how to use line to simultaneously convey both light and form. Isaac will demonstrate the best practices for mapping out compositions and building up a drawing as a whole, without becoming overly focused on a single area. Students will develop several preliminary thumbnail sketches from observation, in order to complete a final drawing in class. This workshop is great for beginners as well as students with some drawing experience.

Students will be asked to purchase, or bring from home a small list of materials. This list will be provided in the purchase confirmation email.
