Woven Leather Baskets (July) with Chloé Derderian-Gilbert
Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Chloé Derderian-Gilbert
Learn the craft of working with leather to weave a basket of your design! Students will be led by artist and designer Chloé Derderian-Gilbert through each step of processing raw leather into a modern design. Students will learn how to transform leather hides into beautiful usable objects through measuring and cutting strips, weaving those strips together into a three dimensional form, and stitching to finish and strengthen the pieces. Processes learned through this class can be scaled up or down, and can be translated into countless forms. Students will leave with design and leatherworking skills and a handmade woven leather basket, tray or vessel.
No previous experience necessary. Open to students 16 & up.
