Woven Beadwork: Bracelets & Necklaces
Tuition: $170 | Materials: $40
As a child, Cece Whitewolf learned the art of beading from her great grandmother, Julia Whitewolf, of the Cayuse tribe - Julia was known throughout the Wallowa valley for the beaded gloves she sold to sustain her family. More info...
Cece has continued in the practice passed down by her great grandmother, including teaching beadwork to her partner, Ron Cameron, who has become accomplished beader in his own right. Cece and Ron are excited to share their knowledge of loomwork beading with students in this one-day workshop!
Join us in the studio to learn how to set up and use a simple beadwork loom, designed based on the traditional knowledge of Julia Whitewolf. Students will practice woven beadwork - a method of beading that is suited to creating jewelry, belts and adornment for regalia. With guidance and instruction from Cece and Ron, students will work with beading needles, thread, clasps and beads to create unique, handcrafted bracelets and necklaces. Participants will leave class with the beginnings of one or more pieces, and get to take home the loom used in class as well as a kit of beads to continue the practice of beading!
