A classic introduction to woodworking, Wooden Spoon Carving led by Rose Holdorf challenges students to shape a functional and beautiful spoon from a freshly cut piece of wood! Rose will guide the group through traditional greenwood carving techniques, including how to use axes and froes to split along the wood grain, ways of rough shaping a blank into a desired form with a simple carving, or “slojd” knife. Students will learn how to safely wield a carving knife, practicing specific carving grips while they work.  Rose will discuss elements of form and design as well as how to source and store wood for future projects. Students will leave with a functional and unique wooden spoon, perfect for stirring a pot of stew or scooping up a bite of breakfast cereal!

No previous experience necessary. This workshop is open to anyone 18 years old & over who meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria for Studio Workshops.
