Winter Color: Natural Dyes of Portland with Lauren Goding
Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Lauren Goding
As the days grow shorter and the plants curl inward, preparing for hibernation, the natural dye studio is full of warmth and color. Join us for this 1-day workshop exploring the winter palette of Portland’s natural dye plants. From harvest and plant identification, to processing and preparing fibers, this workshop leads students through all the steps of dying with fresh and dried plants, with a special focus on flowers, berries, trees. and roots that commonly grow in Portland. The class will work with non-toxic mordants, and plant and animal fibers (cotton, wool, silk). Each student will leave with a swatch booklet, notes, and 2 finished textiles.
No previous experience necessary. Open to students 16 & up.
