Winter Color: Natural Dyes of Portland with Chloë Hight
Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Chloë Hight
As the days grow shorter, and the plants curl inward preparing for hibernation, the natural dye studio is full of warmth and color. Join us for this 1-day workshop exploring the winter palette of Portland’s natural dye plants. From harvest and plant ID to processing and preparing fibers: this workshop leads students through all the steps of dying with fresh and dried plants, with a special focus on flowers, berries, trees and roots that commonly grow in Portland. The class will work with non-toxic mordants and plant and animal fibers (cotton, wool, silk). Each student will leave with a swatch booklet, notes, and 2 finished textiles.
