Summer Wild Foods of the Coastal Forest with Lorelle Sherman

Date: Sunday July 24, 2022
Time: 10am-3pm
Location: Offsite
Teacher: Lorelle Sherman
Tuition: $140

How can you tell the difference between edible wild herbs and a patch of weeds? How do you disarm stinging nettle so you can enjoy it as a food source? Join us for a day of hiking, plant ID and guided foraging for wild summer edibles in the coastal forests with a focus on sustainable harvest! Plant ID and ethical harvest are essential skills for any forager. Lorelle will guide students through the process of correctly identifying and processing a range of wild edibles such as wild berries, edible blossoms, salad greens, wild herbs and conifer needles! During lunch, the group will make a wild salad and wild tea to get a chance to taste some of the species that we identified. Students will leave class with new knowledge of plant ID and with any luck, a basket of wild edibles! This forage will be held near the Tillamook State Forest. An exact meeting location will be provided 5 days prior to the forage date.

This workshop is open to all adults 16 yrs & over, who are prepared to hike all day (rain or shine) on uneven terrain, off-trail. This is not a suitable workshop for those with health conditions that may be triggered by hiking, carrying a backpack, or being outside for 5+ hours in variable weather conditions. Please leave dogs at home. No previous experience necessary. A detailed packing list is included in the confirmation email, and info about our foraging location will be provided 5 days prior to the workshop date.
