From rags to tote bags! WildCraft’s resident textile educator, Hannah Watson has taken our popular Rag Rug Weaving workshop and given it a fresh spin in this 2.5 day weaving intensive. More info...

Students will kick off class learning how to warp rigid heddle looms - moving into demonstrations of basic weaving techniques. Hannah will guide students on how to tear down upcycled cotton fabrics to create an assortment of colorful solid and patterned strips of fabric, perfect for this bold style of weaving. While weaving will occupy the majority of class time, our goal is always to send students home with finished pieces!

Hannah will have sewing machines set up, and ready to stitch students’ finished rag-rugs into functional and durable totes. Students will have an assortment of traditional and vegan leathers to choose from when it comes time to cut, punch and attach straps. For the speedy weavers in the group, Hannah will offer a lesson in pom pom making to add a little embellishment for these beautiful, unique totes!

Open to beginning weavers and stitchers. While the sewing component of this project is minimal, it is recommended students know how to sew a straight line prior to class. While fabric will be provided, students are encouraged to bring any colorful woven cotton fabrics they may want to include.
