Weave a Dog Star Tray

Teacher: Jennah Lucht | Dates: Sat-Sun, 10.04-10.05 , 10am-4pm | Location: SE Division Studio
Tuition: $300 | Materials: $55

Jennah Lucht is making the journey from the panhandle of Northern Idaho to our studio in Portland to bring the WildCraft community a weekend of basketry workshops! More info...

Born into a weaving family of Cherokee ancestry and raised off the grid in Alaska, Jennah’s teaching is informed by a generational connection to basketry, and her current role as owner of Jill Choate Basketry, the business started by her mother in 1994.

In this 2-day workshop, Jennah will share her Dog Star pattern and unique approach to twill weaving. For those new to twill, it's a weaving method used to create durable baskets with intricate, multi-colored patterns. Through Jennah’s demonstrations and lessons students will learn the fundamentals of twill patterns in both First Nations and European basketry.

During the first half of class, students will learn how to read a twill graph while Jennah shares tips and tricks to simplify complex patterns. The second half of class will focus on how students will make a "cat head" base and transform their trivets into trays.

Whether students are beginners or looking to expand their weaving repertoire, this class offers a chance to learn a new technique and leave with an artwork in basket form!

All Native Art classes are offered at 50% off tuition for all peoples of North American Indigenous descent. Please email info@wildcraftstudioschool.com for details.
