Participants in this workshop will learn 3 different ways to darn socks and sweaters in different states of disrepair! More info...

That heirloom sweater, riddled with holes! A favorite pair of wool socks, over-loved and over-worn! Visible Darning is a fun and functional way to mend socks, sweaters and other knitted garments that have worn thin, worn through, or fallen prey to the dreaded closet-moth. Participants in this workshop will learn 3 different ways to darn socks and sweaters in different states of disrepair, with attention toward darning in a functional, wearable way. Textile artist, Erin Eggenburg will offer an explanation of darning materials and their use, a hands-on tutorial to practice 3 ways to darn knits, and explanation of how to choose a particular darning technique. Students will also have time to ask questions about their specific project and ask Erin for advice on repair techniques.

You are invited to bring a knit garment or textile you’d like to repair - while you'll work on a practice patch in class (and boy, you'll be glad for the practice!) Erin will be sure to leave time for students’ questions and to consult on each participant’s personal mending project. Have a woven piece (ex. jeans, pants, button-ups) in need of repair? Erin’s class on Visible Mending will help you learn to repair knits!
