Did you know there's an abundance of wild foods right outside of your door? From wild greens and edible flowers, herbs and spices to roots and shoots, our backyards and neighborhood parks are full of new ingredients to try! You'll never look at hawthorne berries the same way after you learn how to turn them into a unique ketchup-like condiment! Learn numerous ways to use plants and flowers such as garden rose petals and rosehips to create teas, pickles, and baked goods. Elderberry, staghorn sumac, conifer needles... the list of wild foods in the city of Portland goes on and on! Join Forest Ecologist, and wild foods enthusiast, Lorelle Sherman for a 3-hr walk & learn, focusing on the identification of common and safe wild foods found in and around Portland. Students will leave this class with an understanding of how to locate clean environments to harvest from, how to ethically harvest, and safe foraging practices while in an urban environment. This course will come with a Craft Book that includes a number of the plants Lorelle will teach about, alongside recipes for some of her favorite wild foods.
