Tufted Wool Rug Weaving with Ashli Tyre
Time: Friday, 6:30pm-9:30pm, Saturday & Sunday 10am-4pm
Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Ashli Tyre
Learn how to weave a sheep-friendly “sheepskin” rug through the technique of tufted wool weaving. Guided by experienced weaver and wool devotee, Ashli Tyre, students will explore the design options possible with this technique. We will learn about the raw sheep and goat fibers most suited to tufted weaving and how to prepare them for use. Together, we will warp our weavings on simple frame looms, although the technique can be used on any style of loom. Each student will design and weave their own uniquely fluffy piece using fibers sourced from small farms in the Pacific Northwest. Join us and create with a joy for raw animal fibers.
Open to beginner and intermediate weavers, 16 years & up.
