From Tree to Table: Cutting Boards, Cheese Boards & Tea Trays with Rose Holdorf
Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Rose Holdorf
Make a simple, functional, and handmade cutting board, cheese board, or tea tray straight from the tree. In this class students learn how to split workable pieces of wood from locally-sourced, green (freshly cut) logs, such as birch or cherry. Students will use traditional green woodworking tools, such as a shaving horse, drawknife, and carving knife to turn the wood into functional objects for the kitchen. After getting a basic shape to the boards, Rose will guide students in the application of decorative techniques to make each piece unique. Based on each student's design, there may be time to make a second or third piece to take home. No previous experience in woodworking is required to take this class, and experienced woodworkers are welcome too.
