"As a boy, I remember sitting under my father’s loom as he wove. At first, I began working on the fringes of his weavings, tying the threads one at a time. Then as my passion for weaving grew, he would sit with me at his loom, and show me the rhythm and beauty of weaving." -Francisco Bautista, Fourth Generation Master Weaver

We're honored to host Francisco & Laura Bautista for a weekend of weaving inspired by the traditions of their homeland, Teotitlán del Valle, a Zapotec village in Oaxaca, Mexico.  Students will work with hand-dyed wool fibers, learning how to create geometric and pictorial motifs found in traditional Oaxacan rugs and tapestries.  Students will be guided through all the steps of warping a rigid heddle table top loom, designing and planning a pattern, weaving and finishing, leaving with a completed wall hanging.

Ideal for students (16 yrs & up) with some weaving experience.

All looms, materials and tools will be provided.
