Learn the basics of woodcarving, mortise and tenon joinery, and furniture design with this simple, smartly designed 3-legged stool. More info...

Over two hard working days, students will use both traditional and contemporary techniques to lay out and drill angled mortises, carve stool legs and fit tapered tenons, sculpt a seat, and join the components together with glue and wedges. With the patient and experienced guidance of woodworker and educator, Rose Holdorf, students will learn how to use tools of the trade, such as drawknives, gouges, handsaws, reamers, tenon cutters, drills, and more.

At the end of the workshop, Rose will demonstrate working with milk paint, and as time allows, students will have the option to embellish their stools using this age-old technique. In the true spirit of the Scandinavian term slöjd, this class celebrates the joy of working with your hands and surrounding your home--piece by piece--with handmade craft.

This class is open to beginning and experienced woodworkers alike, but be prepared to work hard and be on your feet while using hand strength throughout.
