As light conditions change throughout the day and gentle breezes move the elements, each mobile creates an ever-shifting display of color and light—turning any window into a portal for constantly evolving art. More info...

Unlike static suncatchers that hang in fixed positions, mobiles bring an element of kinetic beauty to stained glass work.

In just three hours, students will design and construct a hanging suncatcher mobile featuring colorful glass elements that dance with light and shadow. Each participant will create 3-5 individual glass pieces—ranging from abstract shapes to geometric forms—that will be assembled into a balanced mobile designed to catch and transform sunlight streaming through any window.

The workshop covers essential stained glass techniques including cutting, foiling and soldering before moving into the delightful challenge of mobile construction. Students will learn the art of balance—both literal and visual—as they arrange their glass elements to create a harmonious composition that moves gently with air currents while casting colorful patterns throughout the room.

The beauty of this project lies in its adaptability to individual skill levels and working pace. More experienced students or quick learners may find themselves creating additional elements within the time frame, while others will focus on perfecting their technique with fewer pieces. Either approach results in a unique mobile that reflects the maker's personal aesthetic and craftsmanship level.

No experience required. Fume extractors and PPE will be provided in class for use during soldering.
