Spring Mushroom Challenge: Morels (April 26) with Krista Cushman

Date: Sunday April 26, 2020
Time: 10am-3pm
Location: Offsite
Teacher: Krista Cushman
Tuition: $120

For the intrepid forager, spring is the most exciting and also the most challenging time of year to hunt mushrooms. Not only is the morel mushroom a master of camouflage, he is also rare and unpredictable! These early spring classes are high risk- high reward for both our teachers and students, so if you’re the gambling type, this mushroom forage is for you! Whether or not we stumble onto a honey-hole of morels, students can expect to learn about plants such as the calypso orchid and other mycoheterotropes, which serve as indicators that morels might be nearby. Students will also be guided through the steps of safe mushroom ID, using resources provided by our teachers.

This is an off-site workshop, meeting near the town of White Salmon, WA.

This workshop is open to all adults 16yrs & over, who are prepared to hike all day (rain or shine) on uneven terrain, off-trail. This is not a suitable workshop for those with health conditions that may be triggered by hiking, carrying a backpack, or being outside for 5+ hours in variable weather conditions. Finding morels or other edible mushrooms is not guaranteed. A high level of education, however, is guaranteed! Please leave dogs at home. No previous experience necessary.
