Sea Greens and Intertidal Edibles (May) with Alanna Kieffer
This class will explore the incredibly diverse ecosystem of the intertidal zone, guiding students through sustainable harvest of mussels, seaweed, and edible barnacles. Learn about this unique and dynamic environment as Alanna walks students through a lesson on oceanography, tides, currents, and waves to better understand the conditions that allow such animals to thrive in a seemingly harsh environment. Learn to identify numerous species of seaweed based on shape, texture, and size, as well as how to dry and use them in everyday cooking. Learn some easy ways to prepare your harvest with a beachside cooking demo. This workshop will be held near Cannon Beach, Oregon. An exact meeting location and further details will be emailed to participants the Monday prior to the workshop date.
