Hand-Drawn Repeats: Pattern Design with Lauren Goding
Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Lauren Goding
Repeating patterns have brought life and story to printed fabrics for centuries. Today, playful patterns can be seen in countless fields from print and digital media to interior and fashion design. While digitally-designed patterns are the norm, this class offers the unique experience of learning how to draw a repeat pattern by hand. Students will explore patterns using different scales, line weights, and a variety of other design elements to achieve one-of-a-kind patterns that can then be transformed into repeating motifs to use in illustration, surface design, packaging, and countless other art and design applications. Students will leave with a variety of hand-drawn patterns and an optional finished piece transferred onto mixed-media paper.
Ideal for those with previous drawing experience, but not necessary. Open to students 16 & up.
