Join Joe Robinson for a one-day introduction to raku firing at East Creek Art Center in Oregon's coastal mountains. No experience required, just show up, adorn 2 hand-thrown pots, and experience the magic of a raku firing! (Purchase additional pieces to fire for $20 per pot)
Raku pieces are heated to 1,800F and pulled red hot from the kiln. Smoke, flame and excitement abound! Take your pots home the same day. Joe is offering options to extend your experience at East Creek, including free camping on the property on Saturday evening, cabin lodging options for an additional charge, and/or make a personal wood fired pizza for $15 pp. For info on additional options, please email Joe directly: joe@eastcreekart.org
About East Creek: East Creek is a community art studio and ceramics retreat center, situated on 20 acres of lush forest. A historic 40-foot wood fired Anagama kiln is a rare feature of this compound. Built in 1983, the kiln is the second of its kind in the US. East Creek is pleased to host guests overnight with space to camp, tiny cabins and a bunkhouse. Joe has been part of the East Creek community for eighteen years, and has owned the property for seven. He has a MFA in Applied Craft + Design from Pacific Northwest College of Art and Oregon College of Art and Craft. Please read East Creek’s Covid-19 and vaccine policy prior to enrollment. This workshop is open to anyone 18 years old & over, who is prepared to hike all day (rain or shine) on uneven terrain, off-trail. This is not a suitable workshop for those with health conditions that may be triggered or exacerbated by hiking, carrying a backpack, or being outside for 5+ hours in variable weather conditions. All participants must meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria for Off-Site or Nature courses. Please leave dogs at home. Listed class locations are approximate and are subject to change at WildCraft’s sole discretion depending on weather conditions and other seasonal factors. A packing list and exact location will be provided 5 days prior to the workshop date.
All participants must accept the inherent risks of participating in an outdoor adventure and agree to sign a liability waiver. This waiver describes in more detail the risks you assume by participating in an Off-Site or Nature course. PLEASE carefully review it!
