Hike, Study, Collect: PNW Plant ID with Russell Clark
Teacher: Russell Clark
If hiking along a verdant trail, identifying trees, shrubs, and other flora of our NW region sounds like your idea of a ideal day, we’ve got the excursion for you! Join professional arborist and woodcarver, Russell Clark for an exploration of the forest, learning about its native and non-native flora, and the relationship between plants, animals, fungi and soil. Each participant will be given a notebook to be used as a plant press, and leave with their own individual “plant-guide” and notes collected from the day. Students will have time to truly explore the landscape of the forest, gain insight into forest stewardship, and get insight from an individual who spends his days caring for trees, and his evenings carving useful wooden tools.
This workshop will be held in Forest Park, Portland. Please pack a sack lunch, water bottle and wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing & footwear. This class will be held outside regardless of the weather. Wild harvests, like this one, can be physically intense processes. Please let us know in advance if you have any health issues that may interfere with your ability to participate fully in this workshop.
