Metalsmithing & Design: Personal Talisman with Sarah Morton Erasmus

From personal adornment, to symbols of wealth, status and protection, jewelry has filled emotional and cultural needs for thousands of years. Like a charm, amulet or fetish – a talisman holds symbolic meaning for the wearer. This 2-day class in an opportunity to create a talisman, using personal imagery and symbols, while developing stronger design and metalsmithing skills. Students with spend time considering design and layout, cutting out shapes using a jewelry saw, letter stamping, doing basic soldering, riveting and drilling. Final pieces may take the form of brass or copper pendants or cuff bracelets. Students may choose to work in silver for an additional charge.
