Machine Sewing: Patchwork Stockings

This jam-packed workshop begins with an overview of 2D pattern-design strategies and a demonstration of improvisational patchworking techniques. Students will learn a variety of skills for creating freeform or pre-planned patchworked stockings, with options to draft a unique design or follow an existing pattern.

Throughout the day, Jea will share professional sewing techniques and tricks, including best practices for cutting and working with natural woven fabrics, how to sew straight and curved seams, tips for working with linings, and the basics of seam insertion for both decorative and functional applications. This workshop will build on students’ knowledge of foundational sewing terminology and skills, and help each person develop the confidence to continue stitching beyond the class.

Students will leave class with at least one finished handcrafted stocking to treasure for years to come!

Students are required to bring their own sewing machines to class. While open to beginners, we ask that students know how to thread their machines and sew a straight line prior to class. Fabric will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring any favorite fabrics and threads! Upon registration, students will be sent a detailed materials list.
