Introduction to Papercutting with Anna Brones
Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Anna Brones
Polish papercuts are called "Wycinanki;" to Swiss and Germans they are known as "Scherenschnitte;" the French call it "Decoupeur;" to the Japanese it is known as "Mon-kiri. However you name it, papercutting is an art form that has been used for centuries, across cultures to create bold, graphic work as well as intricate designs. We’re delighted to have accomplished writer, publisher and artist, Anna Brones as a guest teacher this fall, bringing us her approach to this classic art form. In this workshop, students will learn the basics of papercutting using a drawing or design of their own making. Anna will cover everything from ideal paper types, finding inspiration, cutting techniques, hopefully leaving enough time for her to show off her recently published papercut illustrations in the 2019 edition of Joy of Cooking! Students will leave with a finished papercut, ready to frame!
No previous experience necessary. Open to students 16 & up.
