We’re pleased to host artist and designer Annelie Thurin, for a one-day papercutting workshop focused on color and form. Annelie’s papercutting work draws inspiration from her native Sweden and the province of Dalarna’s rich folk-art traditions. Her imaginative designs made from intricate hand-cut paper, embody the spirit of Kurbits painting – a traditional Swedish folk art style characterized by stylized floral motifs and decorative patterns – and the floral embroidery found on traditional folk costumes.
Annelie shares with us her approach to papercutting, a technique that prioritizes creating forms with layers of solid and patterned paper. While simple and direct in her approach, Annelie will challenge students to see this ‘picture-making’ as a way to practice composition and design. Students will leave with one or more 5”x7” greeting card pieces, and one larger hand-cut piece (8”x10” or 11”x14”).
