Mycology & Marine Mammals
Tuition: $150 |
Join us for an exclusive weekend of mushroom foraging workshops, exploring the diverse and majestic landscapes of the Southern Oregon Coast! More info...
There aren't many places where you can hunt for mushrooms and see marine mammals at the same time. The Southern Oregon Coast is home to breathtaking headlands where the lush forest meets the fury of the ocean. Harbor seals, Steller sea lions, and sometimes even elephant seals congregate on the offshore rocks to rest in safety. In the neighboring forest, an abundance of fungi thrive in the humid coastal air. From bizarre and colorful to choice edible mushrooms, this class will highlight the diversity and ecology of fungi on the southern Oregon Coast.
With a focus on ethical and sustainable foraging practices, this workshop will cover the essentials of mushroom identification and the role of fungi in the maritime ecosystems of the southern Oregon Coast. If you're lucky, you may leave with a basket of chanterelles and even catch a pod of orcas or a gray whale passing by.
This workshop will take place within a 45 minute drive of Bandon, Oregon. Exact workshop location will be provided 1-week prior to the workshop date.
WildCraft is pleased to collaborate with Travel Southern Oregon Coast to celebrate the natural beauty and ecological wonders of this rugged and spectacularly scenic stretch of the Oregon Coast. WildCraft educators will lead 6 workshops on Sept 30th & Oct 1st, each focused on mycology, wild edibles and the unique qualities of a specific micro-region. Join us for one or more of our Foraging the Southern Oregon Coast workshops! Participants will receive a detailed inspiration guide to Bandon, Port Orford and Brookings, with tips for booking great local lodging, plus what to taste, see and do between their workshops on the South Coast.
