Mushroom Cultivation

Teacher: Isaac Weiss | Date: Tue, 04.29 , 6:30-9:30pm | Location: SE Division Studio
Tuition: $125 | Materials: $35

Come learn how to cultivate your own edible mushrooms such as winecaps and oyster mushrooms! More info...

Using readily accessible tools and techniques, artist and hobby mycologist Isaac Weiss will walk participants through some low-tech processes involved in growing culinary mushrooms. Students will gain an understanding of basic mushroom terminology and growth parameters (light, humidity, temperature), and hands-on experience in preparing and inoculating straw to grow mushrooms. Participants will be guided through the steps of creating their own mushroom container, and sent home with an understanding of how to care for it to encourage fruiting. With the knowledge gained in class, students could use their mushroom container to inoculate other containers, and repeat the process at home indefinitely!

While we can't guarantee your mushroom container will fruit - contamination is hard to control for in a group setting, and beyond our control once you leave the classroom - we can guarantee you'll learn everything you need to know about this process in order to continue practicing at home!
