Mt. Hood Mushroom Foray (May 30) with Kimberly Daeschel
Spring is here and the forest is sure to be bursting with renewed life! Spend the day learning about mushrooms near the Mt. Hood National Forest. Students will explore the variety of edible and intriguing organisms the forest has to offer. The class will introduce students to the interconnected ecology of fungal life, mushroom anatomy and ID guidelines, foraging techniques and etiquette, as well as home cooking/preservation methods. This class will also be focused on hunting for some prized edibles- spring kings and morel mushrooms! Though we can’t guarantee you’ll go home with a full basket, we can promise this workshop will give you a new appreciation for wild foraged foods! This is an off-site workshop, meeting near the town of Government Camp, OR. An exact meeting location and further details will be emailed to participants one week prior to the forage.
This workshop is open to all adults 16 yrs & over, who are prepared to hike all day (rain or shine) on uneven terrain, off-trail. This is not a suitable workshop for those with health conditions that may be triggered by hiking, carrying a backpack, or being outside for 5+ hours in variable weather conditions. Finding morels or other edible mushrooms is not guaranteed. A high level of education, however, is guaranteed! Please leave dogs at home. No previous experience necessary. A detailed packing list is included in the confirmation email, and info about our foraging location will be provided 5 days prior to the workshop date.
