Mt. Hood Fall Mushroom Forage (Oct 31) with Tiffany Garner
Teacher: Tiffany Garner
Spend a day in the foggy fall forest on the hunt for edible mushrooms! The goal of all WildCraft forages is to locate and learn to identify any mushroom the group discovers, not just the edible mushrooms. Tiffany will help students explore and understand the larger ecosystem that supports the growth of particular fungi, including trees and plants that can be good indicators of specific mushrooms. Tiffany will offer an introduction to the basics of mushroom identification, proper foraging technique, and how to prepare and preserve edible mushrooms. Though we can’t guarantee you’ll go home with a full basket, we can promise this workshop will give you a new appreciation for wild foraged foods! No previous experience necessary, be prepared for cool weather and muddy trails. Tiffany participated in WildCraft’s 2019 Mycology Teacher Training, guided by Rachel Zoller of Yellow Elanor. This is an off-site workshop, meeting near the town of Welches, OR. An exact meeting location and further details will be emailed to students one week prior to the forage.
This workshop is open to all adults 16 yrs & over, who are prepared to hike all day (rain or shine) on uneven terrain, off-trail. This is not a suitable workshop for those with health conditions that may be triggered by hiking, carrying a backpack, or being outside for 5+ hours in variable weather conditions. Please leave dogs at home. Listed class locations are approximate and are subject to change depending on weather conditions and other seasonal factors. A packing list and exact location will be provided 5 days prior to the workshop date.
