Teacher: Brittany Stanton | Date: Sat, 03.29 , 10am-4pm | Location: SE Division Studio
Tuition: $170 | Materials: $35

In this intermediate basket weaving class, students will use rattan reed to create a basket with a round-ribbed structure. More info...

Artist and educator Brittany Stanton will discuss traditional rib basket shapes such as "egg baskets" and "melon baskets" and how they are woven. Take your weaving skills to the next level as you learn to set up a handle and rim frame, form and attach ribs and use a plain weave structure to form a round melon basket.

Brittany will demonstrate how to create a joint, such as a "god’s eye" to lash the rim and handle together, while making sure students have time to explore decorative elements like braiding and weaving the handle. The completed basket will measure 8" in diameter with an 8" tall handle. Materials used in this class include ¼” flat reed, #5 round reed, and 2, 8" round hoops.
