Dive into the compelling process of making inks from plants, and discover the array of colors accessible in our daily environments! In this workshop, Carolyn will cover the principles and practices of safe, seasonal and sustainable harvesting for a wide range of pigment sources, such as nuts, flowers and berries. Spend the day learning how to extract pigment from local plants, with special attention given to the interaction of materials, pH and color. Carolyn will cover various methods of ink making, discussing lightfastness and longevity, ratios, proportions and recipes.
Students will take home a set of botanical inks, suitable for drawing and painting, and swatches of all the colors created by the group.
No previous experience necessary. This workshop is open to anyone 18 years old & over who meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria for Studio Workshops.
