Time: Friday 6:30-9:30pm, Saturday & Sunday 10am-4pm
Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Jorie Garcia
You can warp a loom in your sleep and whip up a plain weave with your eyes closed....now what? Join textile designer and weaver Jorie Garcia for a weekend of speciality weaving techniques and bump your skills to the next level! Over the course of this 2.5 day workshop, students will start with a refresher on the basics, warping a rigid heddle table-top loom on Friday night. Class will quickly move on to making a small weaving sampler, exploring a multitude of patterns and textures such as rya knots, loops, lacework, and needle weaving. Plenty of class time will be spent experimenting with patterns, to create unique woven designs and personal expressions. Jorie will demo how the loom can be manipulated to allow for more pattern options including herringbone and twill. Students will also be guided through tricks and tips to approach common weaving mishaps with confidence. Sunday afternoon will wrap up by exploring a range of finishing techniques.
Ideal for students (16 yrs & up) with some weaving experience.
All looms, materials and tools will be provided.
