Knit Sweater Construction with Lisa Woolridge
Time: Thursdays, 6:30-9:30pm
Location: Portland Studio
Teacher: Lisa Woolridge
A finely made sweater is what every knitter dreams of creating! The ability to take a few balls of yarn and turn them into a functional, custom-fit sweater is slow fashion at its absolute finest. Expert knitter, pattern-maker and co-owner of Northside Knit Co., Lisa Woolridge joins us for a 4-week evening workshop dedicated to the highest of knitting pursuits: the sweater. Over the course, students will learn the process of the Provisional Cast On - a method of keeping stitches live at the beginning of the piece, to work them later in the project. Lisa will guide the group through the details of shaping shoulders, separating stitches for sleeves, and estimating fit of your finished piece. The sweater is styled asan oversized, cropped and curvy piece in the classic texture-full garter stitch. The sleeves have a subtle poof and are cropped at the elbow. The body features a softly curving silhouette. Students will be working with circular knitting needles and organic cotton worsted weight, doubled to create the feel of a bulky yarn. The materials fee includes 8 skeins of organic cotton yarn, circular knitting needles, mini scissors, crochet hook, project tote, and a printed copy of the sweater pattern. Students will have a choice of colors.
This class is ideal for beginner to intermediate knitters, who know the basics of knitting (cast on, knit stitch and cast off) 16 yrs & up.
