Students will learn about the plants and processes that have been used for centuries by Japanese dyers to impart color on cloth as Tyler Peterson guides a conversation on historic figures and traditional techniques related to Japanese dyeing. Students will work with non-toxic mordants, plant and animal fibers (cotton, silk) as well as home-grown or ethically sourced dye plants. Each participant will leave with a spectrum of naturally dyed fabric swatches, a swatch booklet, Japanese Natural Dye Craft Book and 2 finished textiles.
No previous experience necessary. This workshop is open to anyone 18 years old & over who meet the Essential Eligibility Criteria for Studio Workshops.
