Screen printing, also known as serigraphy, meaning “drawing in silk,” is a stencil based printing process where a mesh screen is used to transfer ink onto a surface, allowing for the quick creation of reproductions and multiples. In this Introduction to Screen Printing class, Elizabeth will demonstrate a variety of methods to create images for printing, layering and registering color using both digital and hand drawn processes. Students will gain experience in prepping, burning, and pulling a series of prints on paper using an exposure unit, photo emulsion, squeegees, acrylic ink, and aluminum framed screens. Students will have the option to create limited edition artworks or experiment with variations within their designs.
