Across Mesopotamia- from Greece to Rome- mosaics have adorned palaces, temples, and public spaces for centuries, showcasing the artistic achievements of ancient civilizations and memorializing the cultures’ religions, myths and stories. More info...

In this one-day workshop, artist Brittany Knotek will share the traditional techniques of mosaic creation, while offering contemporary approaches to developing imagery and creating designs using ceramic tiles. Students will learn how to cut and shape ceramic tiles precisely and safely, apply adhesive, set their design and finish their pieces with grout. Participants will create a 10" x 10" piece on wood, for hanging indoors, using the direct method of mosaic making.

Enrolled students will receive an email upon registration with instructions on how to create a drawing or design in advance of class. For students who prefer to focus on craft rather than design, Brittany will come prepared with pre-designed templates. Whether you choose to design your own imagery, or work from a template, each student will leave with a finished piece, and a comprehensive understanding of the steps and tools needed to create mosaic artwork!
